On Saturday 14th November 2009, Rob Downs, Apteco’s Technology Director, ran for England in the British & Irish Masters Cross Country Internationals.
The race was held in Perry Park, Birmingham and included teams from England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All runners were aged between 35 & 70 years old and the 8km course consisted of a 2km loop without any killer hills, except for the final 150 metres of the race.
After a preceding day of heavy rain and a weather warning of gale force winds, Rob completed his debut run for England in an impressive 31 minutes and 10 seconds. As a result the M45 England team received a total of 18 points and were awarded first place for their age group. England then went on to win the whole event, followed by the Republic of Ireland in second place and Wales in third.
